National Nutrition Week (NNW) was established in 1974 by the
U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Its
purpose is to help people make informed nutrition decisions and to encourage
nutritional education at local, state, national, and international levels. The
goal of National Nutrition Week is to highlight the importance of getting
adequate amounts of nutritious food in our diets. It encourages individuals and
organizations to get involved in making healthier choices.



 The USDA FNS provides
resources and tools for individuals and families who want to eat well. These
materials focus on three topics: eating well, staying fit, and being active.
They include several helpful publications including the Dietary Guidelines for
Americans, Healthy Eating Plate, MyPlate, and Cooking Matters.
